ABOUT OUR MILKY WAY GALAXY
Our home among the stars.
The Milky Way is a vast barred spiral galaxy containing hundreds of billions of stars, including our own Sun. From Earth, we see the Milky Way as a glowing band of stars stretching across the night sky.
Our Solar System is located in one of the galaxy's spiral arms, called the Orion Arm, roughly 26,000 light-years from the center of the Milky Way.
At the heart of the galaxy lies Sagittarius A, a supermassive black hole with a mass of about 4 million Suns.
And the Milky Way is only one galaxy among billions of galaxies across the observable universe.
We're just one tiny part of something unimaginably enormous. ✨
